back end technology
Open source software provides the foundation for most of our back-end development. Our server farm runs on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system; we use the Apache web server, and Tomcat application server.
All of the websites that we host ourselves are developed in Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE), and use the open source MySQL database. We have developed a library of reusable J2EE components, such as Taglab Toolkit, which enable us to accelerate and enhance the development of back-end functionality.
We also work with other technologies, such as PHP and .NET, when we develop sites to be hosted by our clients.
front end technology
We believe that the only way to produce outstanding front end code is to write it by hand. That’s why all our web development team know XHTML and CSS inside out. We’re also sticklers for standards compliance, so we check all our code against W3C validators.
Our software engineers take a keen interest in front-end code, developing sophisticated web applications using JavaScript and Ajax, which enable our clients to take advantage of the latest Web 2.0 techniques.
We aim to take a standards-based approach wherever possible, but there are some things, such as animation, where nothing can beat Adobe Flash, so our team of experienced Flash gurus are always on hand to inject some eye-popping interactive multimedia.
